The leader of Bryan-based CHI St. Joseph Health is stepping down.

Rick Napper was the first president and chief executive after Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) purchased the system, and was praised as being instrumental in leading the system’s integration efforts with the new owner.

During Napper’s two years, St. Joseph Health opened a new and larger emergency and trauma center and opened the MatureWell Lifestyle Center in west Bryan with the A&M Health Science Center.

CHI says an interim leader is expected to be named in the coming weeks, and there will be a national search for a new president and CEO.

Napper’s last day is December 15th.

News release from CHI St. Joseph Health:

CHI St. Joseph Health President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rick Napper will step down effective December 15 to pursue other opportunities. Rick came to CHI St. Joseph Health in November 2015 from Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), where he served since 2013.

During his tenure, Rick has been instrumental in leading the system’s integration efforts with CHI. Additionally, he put a continuous focus on performance improvement efforts, with an emphasis on creating an extraordinary experience and environment for our patients, people, and physicians. Part of that focus included creating the Alignment Room, a space dedicated to improving our health system through the Lean process.

Under his leadership, CHI St. Joseph Health opened a new and larger Emergency & Trauma Center and grew our physician enterprise to include key. Last year, the system opened the MatureWell Lifestyle Center through a collaborative partnership with the Texas A&M Health Science Center, expanding the senior services available to this rapidly growing demographic in the Brazos Valley area.

We expect to name an interim leader within the coming weeks and begin a national search for a permanent replacement to lead the organization.
