News release from Bryan police:
On December 19, 2015 at 10:30am Officers responded to a stolen vehicle that had just occurred in the 3600 block of Choctaw St. in Bryan. The owner of the vehicle advised that he had started the vehicle and went back into his residence for a few minutes. When the owner returned he observed his 2008 White Chevy Impala being driven away. The owner was able to give a description of the suspect and vehicle to dispatch. An Officer responding to the call observed the vehicle and suspect driving west on Boonville at Austins Colony Pkwy. The stolen vehicle turned north onto Austin’s Colony when the Officer initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle initially stopped at the South entrance of Settlers way but when a second police unit arrived the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit did not take place; however, the vehicle lost control, leaving the roadway rolling multiple times near the North end of Settlers Way. As the vehicle left the roadway it caused significant damage to the curb and a Suddenlink power supply box. The suspect was seen fleeing from the vehicle on foot but was apprehended by police officers.
The suspect is a 15 year old male from Bryan. Due to his age his name and photo will not be released. The suspect was transported to St. Joseph hospital for treatment of minor injuries. After his release he will be transported to the Juvenile Detention Center where he will be charged with Evading in a Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (both State Jail Felonies).
The damage to the curb and Suddenlink equipment is estimated at $3,000. Suddenlink representatives stated residents in the area of Austin’s Colony will be without service for the rest of the day if not longer.
A secondary investigation into a hit and run accident occurred in the 2300 block of Pecan Ridge Dr. where a parked and unattended vehicle was struck. Evidence indicates is may be linked to the stolen vehicle and is still under investigation.
