ATLANTA (AP)_ Going on the road didn’t faze the Cleveland Cavaliers. They took the opener of the NBA Eastern Conference finals by topping Atlanta 97-89 as LeBron James led all scorers with 31.
But it was J.R. Smith who provided the surprise offense punch for the Cavs. The ex-Knick made 8 of 12 from three-point range to score 28 points.

Game 2 is Friday night in Atlanta
