Aggie football fans still waiting

A&M football fans are still in a holding pattern anxious to find out who will be A&M’s new football coach.

Two names that had been mentioned are officially out of the picture now as Larry Fedora was officially names North Carolina’s new coach yesterday and Air Force’s Troy Calhoun publically said he was staying with the Falcons.

While the focus still appears to be on Houston’s Kevin Sumlin as the likely choice, TexAgs Billy Luicci wrote last night that his sources told him that A&M made overtures to some big name coaches like Boise State’s Chris Petersen, Oregon’s Chip Kelly and TCU’s Gary Patterson, but Luicci still considers those longshots.

Sumlin, the former A&M assistant under RC Slocum, held a team meeting last night but there was no farewell speech, just a meeting to talk about bowl preparation and the like.

Today’s a new day and it’s possible there could be an answer by sundown, maybe.
