A Burleson County grand jury has indicted a Caldwell police officer on a charge of official oppression.

District attorney Julie Renken announced 35 year old Robert Baucom of Caldwell turned himself in Thursday at the Brazos County jail, where he was released after posting a $1,000 dollar cash bond.

A news release issued by Renken did not explain what Baucom is accused of doing that led to the grand jury issuing the misdemeanor charge.

The news release did state there was “no evidence the actions of Sgt. Baucom caused the medical condition of Chester Jackson, Jr.” That’s after Texas Rangers interviewed medical personnel who had contact with Jackson.

Jackson was an inmate in the Burleson County jail between April 19 and 21.

According to the news release, the indictment followed the grand jury hearing from seven witnesses and reviewing evidence that included “watching all relevant videos” while Jackson was in the Burleson County jail.
