The Texas Rangers suffered their third straight shutout loss Monday night, falling to the Detroit Tigers, 14-0 at Comerica Park.
Miguel Cabrera drove in five runs for Detroit, including a bases loaded double in the bottom of the fifth.
Texas All-Star right-hander Kyle Gibson took the loss on the mound, allowing eight earned runs in five innings of work.
The Rangers, who now dropped six straight, will look to get back on track Tuesday when they visit the Tigers again at 6:10 p.m.
After 177 years of operation, the Boonville Cemetery along Boonville Road in Bryan east of the freeway closed in 2012. Now part of Brazos County’s Boonville Heritage Park, a state historical marker was dedicated on Monday (May 13). Research for the marker that was done by the late Mary Ann Cusimano was shared by Vicki Smith-Dicky and Henry Mayo of the Brazos County historical commission. Dicky said that former county commissioner Billy Beard and district judges Tom McDonald and Bradley Smith developed a plan in 1982 to save the cemetery…the last piece of Boonville’s existence as the first county seat of Brazos County. Mayo also pointed out the base of the marker includes a dedication to Cusimano, the first time that has been done in Brazos County. Mayo said the sun dried brick that forms the marker base came from the former Ursuline Convent that dates back to 1901. Accepting the state marker, county judge Duane Peters recalled growing up driving by the cemetery when Boonville Road was the only way to get into Bryan. Firefighters from two of College Station’s six fire stations responded to an overnight fire that destroyed the Krispy Kreme doughnuts store. A CSFD spokesman says no one was injured and no one was inside the building. Investigators from CSFD and the state fire marshal’s office spent the day looking through the remains in their attempt to determine a cause. Due to intense flames resulting in a partial collapse of the building, firefighters were not able to get inside. Firefighters responded to a call from an employee of a neighboring restaurant who heard an explosion.
A College Station man died in a crash that closed Highway 6 north of OSR highway on Saturday (May 11) for about four hours. Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety say a SUV turning out of a private drive failed to yield the right of way and was struck by a northbound pickup that was towing a trailer. The driver of the SUV who died was identified as 84 year old Johnnie Payton. The driver and a passenger in the pickup were treated at the scene for undisclosed injuries and released.
