The Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency (BVSWMA) announced at its board meeting on Tuesday the elimination of tipping fees for the cities of Bryan and College Station.

Tipping fees or rates are what businesses, individuals, and/or municipalities are charged per ton of trash to dump at the Twin Oaks Landfill.

James Edge, BVSWMA board member and Bryan City Councilman, says tipping fees for the cities have drastically decreased over the years thanks to the efficiency of the Twin Oaks Landfill’s operation.

“The cities of Bryan and College Station will be paying nothing, and that includes the state and federal fees that are also a part of that, which come to a couple dollars per ton. BVSWMA is going to cover that and that will be reflected in both your utility bill and solid waste bill,” says Edge.

Edge says that results in a $6 million savings per city over what most cities pay for the service.
