BVCOG Reminder Kari’s Law Now In Affect

Two years ago, an east Texas woman, Kari Hunt, was stabbed to death in a motel room by her estranged husband while their daughter four times to call 9-1-1.

But the nine year old girl was unsuccessful because she had to first hit a prefix to get an outside line.

Anita Pitts with the Brazos Valley Council of Government (BVCOG) says that changed Thursday as Kari’s Law went into affect.

The new state laws requires many businesses with multi-line phone systems to call 9-1-1 without a prefix.

Last month, BVCOG rolled out a text to 9-1-1 feature in their service area outside of Brazos County…which is scheduled to start a similar service later this year.
