Busy Night for Bryan Council

The Bryan City Council covered alot of ground in just over an hour Tuesday night.

Click to hear the story from WTAW’s Chris Clift:

At the last Council meeting of the year the vote was unanimous to settle a complicated legal battle that has been going on since 1997.

More than 20 different lawsuits have been filed related to a disagreement over transmissions with the Texas Municipal Power Agency.

BTU General Manager Dan Wilkerson says the settlement will have a positive effect on rates.

Wilkerson says his best estimate is that the settlement will save BTU several million dollars in the next three to four years.

Council also voted to approve a nine month contract with the Brazos Animal Shelter while a few additional details are worked out.

Council member Art Hughes says the city is not in a position to regulate how the shelter is being operated.

The primary issue to be discussed deals with how much the city pays when the shelter takes in an animal.

Hughes says there are alot of misunderstandings regarding the relationship between Bryan and the animal shelter, but he expects everything to be worked out.

Busy Night for Bryan Council

The Bryan City Council has a number of important issues on their agenda Tuesday night.

Click to hear WTAW’s Chris Clift talk with Bryan at large Council Member Mike Southerland:

In Southerland’s opinion Council should not support an increase in the transportation fee for utilities users, which is going to be considered Tuesday.

Council is also working on budget options and Southerland feels the city should be spending less.

During the interview he asks anyone with concerns or questions related to the City of Bryan to call him, but does not give a phone number.

Southerland can be reached at 229-7805.

All agendas for Bryan City Council meetings are posted at www.bryantx.gov
