A Union Pacific (UP) train derailed Friday afternoon in Burleson County.
UP spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza says there were no injuries.
Espinoza says 16 rail cars carrying coal left the tracks south of Cooks Point on FM 1362. The coal is inside the rail cars, which are upright.
None of the four locomotives derailed. The train had a total of 135 rail cars.
UP has dispatched equipment to help us move the cars back on the tracks.
Railroad officials are assessing the situation and plan on working around the clock to clear the area.
The Texas Department of Transportation is also on the scene to place signs and barricades. Traffic on FM 1362 is being routed around the scene by way of Burleson County Road 210.
The Burleson County Sheriff’s office says the derailment has not caused a traffic delay on Highway 21 through Cooks Point.
