Burglary Suspect Killed in Struggle With Sheriff’s Deputy

HOUSTON (AP) _ A burglary suspect is dead after he was shot twice during a struggle with a deputy in suburban Houston.

The incident happened about 11 a.m. Monday in the back yard of a house in northwest Harris County.

Harris County sheriff’s spokeswoman Christina Garza says a woman was home with her toddler son when she heard someone break into her back door. The woman ran out the front door with her child and went to a neighbor to call police.

A deputy arrived to find three suspects in the house. Two fled on foot, and the deputy chased a third out the back door into the yard. Garza says the two struggled for the deputy’s gun, causing an accidental gunshot. Garza says the deputy then fired another shot in self-defense.
