It’s a rare sight when law enforcement arrive at the scene of a crime where the suspect is being held at gunpoint by a neighbor.

Brazos County sheriff’s deputy Nathan Dennis says a neighbor to a burglary victim called in a report of suspicious activity and later fired two shots into the ground to stop the suspect.

The gunfire from a 22 caliber rifle was in a pasture north of Kurten Wednesday afternoon.

According to the arrest report, 17 year old Eric Derrow of Clay told the deputy who arrested him that he kicked in a door of the victim’s home to look for gasoline.

Derrow was released from the Brazos County jail Friday after posting a $5,000 dollar bond.
