37 year old Candis (also known as Candice) Evans was sentenced to 15 years for biting a Bryan police officer in August 2021.
A news release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office says the officer had responded to a head on crash involving Evans, who was under the influence of PCP. She bit the officer who was trying to keep her from running into the street.
A jury last April found Evans guilty of assaulting a public servant. She was sentenced by the trial judge last week (July 30).
This comes after Evans was sentenced to two years for biting an eight year old in 2016, according to Bryan police, while she was under the influence of PCP.
Court records also show Evans is awaiting three trials on DWI charges that took place in November 2022, January 2023, and July of 2023.
News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:
Candis Evans, 37, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday, July 30 by Judge David Hilburn. Evans was convicted for assaulting a public serv-ant by a Brazos County jury on April 15, 2025.
On August 10, 2021, the Bryan Police Department responded to a major collision near downtown Bryan at the intersection of William J. Bryan Parkway and Logan Avenue. Civilians on the scene reported that the defendant was driving erratically before crossing lanes and crashing head on into another vehicle.
First responders observed signs that the defendant was intoxicated. She was not responsive to directions and attempted to leave the scene. The defendant then bit a Bryan police officer who was attempting to stop her from running into the street. The bite left a visible injury on the officer’s arm.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital, where she admitted to PCP use.
During the punishment phase of trial, the judge heard evidence that the defendant was previously sentenced to prison for causing injury to an child by biting the 8-year-old child on the shoulder. In that case, the Defendant was initially placed on probation. That probation was modified due to probation violations and the defendant was required to complete an in-custody drug rehab. After completing that pro-gram, the defendant continued to violate her probation and was eventually sentenced to two years in prison in 2020.
Additionally, the Judge heard evidence that the defendant attempted to bite a different Bryan police officer in September of 2023 during a investigatory detention.
Finally, evidence was presented that while on bond for this case, she was arrested on three separate occasions for driving while intoxicated. Those three additional cases are currently pending.
Statement from assistant Brazos County district attorneys Caleb Beacham and Adam Andreski: “The defendant was given every opportunity to correct her behavior, but she continued to place the public in danger by driving while intoxicated and assaulting the police officer who responded. The Judge’s sentence protects law enforcement and our community.”
