Bryan Voters to Decide Trading Municipal Golf Courses

Travis Bryan Municipal Golf Course

Bryan voters will decide in November whether the Travis Bryan municipal golf course can be sold and if the city should pursue purchasing Briarcrest Country Club.

The Bryan City Council advanced both special questions Thursday without any comments.

There were two public speakers. Margaret Reese says Bryan should not be in the golf course business.

Betty Smith says there should be two elections to consider each question separately.

Voters will consider whether to remove the parkland designation from the current municipal golf course. That would free up the 117-acre tract for private development, putting it on the tax rolls.

The second question, whether to purchase Briarcrest, is a non-binding vote.
