Bryan Schools to Receive Dictionary Donations

It’s a fresh, new school year, and each one of Byran ISD’s third graders will receive his or her own dictionary through a special program.

Bryan Dictionary Project Chair Debbie Pipes says she and several other former educators behind the fundraising will be distributing 1,352 dictionaries to 62 third grade classrooms in September.

She says thanks to community generosity, they’ve raised $3,024, which they just sent off for the books.

Pipes  says the fundraising has been difficult, but worth it, and they are still raising funds for a prize portion of the giveaway in which the teachers conduct dictionary drills.

She says elected officials, including Congressman Bill Flores, will help hand out the dictionaries so that the children realize that it’s an important gift.

Pipes says they did offer dictionaries to College Station schools, but CSISD has rules that prohibit it  receiving gifts from groups with partisan ties.

If you’d like to donate, mail a check made out to Dictionary Project for Bryan to Republican Headquarters, 1640 Briarcrest Drive, Suite 122, Bryan Texas, 77802.
