Bryan school board members are told by its demographers to expect continued growth.
Pat Guesman gave the board what was described as a moderate estimate of Bryan ISD gaining an additional 841 students during the next ten years.
Guesman estimates in the next decade there will be 6,300 new single family homes and 2,600 multifamily units. But not all will be occupied by families with school aged children.
The demographers recommended tweaking attendance zones to balance campus populations. That’s because in older neighborhoods, parents are deciding to stay after their children grow up.
And the corporation that owns the I-L-T charter school in College Station has purchased property in Bryan across the freeway from Rayburn intermediate school.
Next month, the board will receive a facilities report. With that and the demographic information, the board will start working towards a bond issue that will go before voters a year from now.
The superintendent pointed out the unknown factor remains what state lawmakers will do with school finance reform and related funding issues.
