Bryan School Board Postpones Almost All Of Monday’s Meeting Until Next Week

Monday’s Bryan school board meeting consisted only of the public hearing on the 2019-2020 school year budget and tax rate.

A problem with the meeting notice meant delaying all business until Tuesday, August 28th.

No one spoke during Monday’s public hearing.

The budget presentation included information about increased costs in Bryan ISD due to the addition of all day pre-kindergarten, the addition of the district’s career and technical education center, hiring more campus monitors, registered nurses, and licensed vocational nurses, an increase in the cost of school resource officers, an increase in the cost of providing substitute teachers, and increased employee pay.

Administrators are recommending a tax rate reduction of seven cents. All of that is due to action by state lawmakers. Bryan ISD’s tax rate for making payments on its debt is recommended to stay the same.

The budget calls for spending $1.7 million from the district’s savings account…officially known as the fund balance…to meet the district’s general fund needs of nearly $154 million dollars.
