The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hire of two principals during its noon workshop June 1.
Dr. Walter Hunt was named principal of Sam Rayburn Middle School, and Mrs. Youshawna Hunt was named principal of Fannin Elementary.
Dr. Walter C. Hunt Jr., Sam Rayburn Middle School Principal
Dr. Hunt most recently served as principal of Westfield High School in Spring, Texas, and prior to that he was principal of Twin Creeks Middle School in Spring. From 2012 to 2014 he was the associate principal of instruction at Carl Wunsche High School in Spring ISD. He also served the school as tower principal from 2009 to 2012. His previous roles in education include a principal internship at Humble High School in Houston, Texas, and as assistant principal from August 2005 to May 2008 at Klein Intermediate School, also in Houston. He began his teaching career at Stovall Middle School in Houston, teaching language arts and coaching from 2000 to 2005.
He earned a doctoral degree in professional leadership from the University of Houston in 2012 and a master’s in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University in 2003. He received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Texas A&M University in 2000.
Mrs. Youshawna Hunt, Fannin Elementary Principal
From 2009 to 2013, Mrs. Hunt served as Principal at Thompson Elementary School in Spring ISD. From 2013 to 2015 she was principal of Bammel Elementary School, also in Spring. She served two years as a middle school testing coordinator (2007-2009), and from 2005 – 2007 she was a classroom teacher and department chair at Claughton Middle School in Spring ISD. She began her teaching career in 1998 at Aldine ISD, where she served through 2006.
Mrs. Hunt earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998 and a master’s degree in education from Prairie View A&M University in 2003. She is anticipated to receive her doctoral degree in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University in the Spring of 2016.
