Bryan School Board Decides Against Tax Increase Vote This November

For the better part of ten years, the Bryan school district has left millions of dollars in state funding on the table.

That’s because there’s been no increase in the local tax rate.

The Bryan school board agreed with administrators during a workshop on Monday that there’s not enough time to ask voters in November for a two cent increase.

If approved, the Bryan district would have received another $1.7 million in state money…along with $1.3 million from local property owners.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis says there’s still $3 billion still on the table in Austin that the legislature can spend on public education.

Board president David Stasny raised the idea last month because the district has left millions on the table because the local tax rate hasn’t been raised.
