The Bryan school board has changed how it will select the construction company to convert the existing Stephen F. Austin (SFA) middle school building into new central administration offices.
The board approved the recommendation from Bryan ISD’s construction manager, Jeff Windsor, to solicit official bids from local contractors after doing an informal survey earlier this year.
Previously, the conversion would be handled by the construction manager at risk (CMAR), who was in charge of the new SFA building and the renovation of what was the Bryan civic auditorium into Bryan ISD’s performing arts center.
Windsor said the district was not able to reach terms with the CMAR on the new Bryan ISD administration offices, which was part of the November 2014 bond issue.
At the time of the bond issue promotion. the estimated cost of the conversion was around $8 million dollars.
