Bryan P&Z Postpones Recommendation On Proposed Residential-Commercial Development

Last Thursday, the Bryan Planning and Zoning commission postponed action on a zoning change request to create a residential and commercial development in the area of Boonville and Briarcrest.

That’s after a two hour public hearing, which focused on a 32 acre area along Briarcrest and Green Valley Drive, backing up against the Wheeler Ridge subdivision.

Raybon Metcalf, the engineer representing the rezoning applicant, and Mike Davis, who owns the 32 acres, said up to 60 percent of the 32 acres would be used for retail and up to 40 percent for residential. But neither could give specific on the type of residential.

That led to many of the ten people who own property in Wheeler Ridge to oppose the request because of the threat of multi-story apartment buildings.

P&Z chairman Bobby Gutierrez was among members also wondering about the type of residential. But Gutierrez also told the homeowners if they want the woods, they should buy the land.

P&Z unanimously voted to postpone action until August 3rd, with the possibility the request could be discussed in their next meeting on July 20th.
