Bryan Puppy Found, Negative for Rabies

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas health officials say a puppy given away in Bryan and thought to possibly have rabies has been found and is not infected.

The Department of State Health Services on April 19 announced the search for the male blue heeler. The owners days earlier had given the dog to an unknown man in the parking lot of a food market.

The man said he was moving to Oklahoma or Arkansas.

DSHS says the puppy was located Sunday in Travis County. Lab test results Monday show the dog does not have rabies.

Concerns were raised because one of the pup’s littermates tested positive for rabies after an encounter with a skunk.
