Officer Kelley McKethan of the Bryan police department visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver about the investigation of an attempted aggravated robbery involving a 77 year old victim, an invitation to Thursday’s National Night Out kickoff in the parking lot of the Bryan Target store, registration for National Night Out block parties, and locations of increased traffic enforcement.
News release from Bryan police about Monday’s attempted robbery:
On September 14, 2015 at approximately 8:00pm Bryan Officers responded to the 400 block of N. Coulter for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that had just occurred. A 77 year old male was in his front yard when he was attacked from behind. The victim was struck with a bat and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The victim was treated at St. Joseph Hospital for his injuries. The suspect(s) attempted to take the victim’s wallet but failed to get it and fled the immediate area on foot. At this time the case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division.

News release about Thursday’s National Night Out kickoff from Bryan, College Station, and Texas A&M police and the Brazos County Sheriff’s office:
Come join us Thursday, September 17, 2015, for the NATIONAL NIGHT OUT kickoff event. This event will take place in the parking lot of Target, located at the corner of Briarcrest Drive and Earl Rudder Freeway, 3061 Wildflower Dr. Activities will start at 4:00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m.
The Bryan Police Department and the College Station Police Department, along with the Texas A&M University Police Department and the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office will be joined by local fire departments and other organizations at this annual kickoff event. The kickoff is held in preparation for the actual NATIONAL NIGHT OUT event that will occur on Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 and will provide citizens with an opportunity to sign up for their own neighborhood block party.

The goal of NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is to heighten awareness for crime prevention and drug prevention, to generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and to send a message to criminals letting them know that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
