A Bryan man driving through a 20 mile an hour school zone at 30 near Bonham elementary Tuesday morning was arrested on multiple charges.

28 year old Matthew Smalls is accused of assaulting two Bryan police officers in the front yard of his home, resisting arrest, and evading arrest.

According to the arrest report, the motorcycle officer who caught Smalls speeding pointed his gun at Smalls’s back.

The officer said that was in response to Smalls strangling him with the chin strap of his helmet.

After Smalls let go of the helmet, the officer used his Taser to hold the motorist until backup arrived.

Then Smalls is accused of running away…only to fall down…then struggled with officers who were placing handcuffs and getting him in a patrol car.

The motorcycle officer sustained a swollen lip and a second officer had a swollen face after they were struck by the driver.

Smalls remained in jail Thursday evening on bonds totaling $68,000 dollars.
