A man from The Woodlands was released from the Brazos County jail on $150,000 dollars bond the day after he was arrested by Bryan police on charges of threatening a woman and four children with a handgun.
According to the arrest report, the woman says she was driving down Boonville Road at 50 miles per hour when a car came up behind her, the driver used his hand to flash a five, then he put a handgun against his windshield.
Officers reported the same account was given by each of the children, who are between the ages of 7 and 11.
The woman said the car passed her and then the man slammed his brakes as if he wanted her to rear-end him.
Both vehicles went into the parking lot of the Kroger store at Boonville and the freeway, where he parked near the store and she parked somewhere else.
The man, identified as 67 year old James William Thompson, denied holding the handgun because he didn’t have the strength in his hand.
But the officer noted the man had no trouble holding a 20 ounce cup of tea.
Thompson said he flashed his hands to go 55 miles per hour because the woman was driving 40.
He also said he had a license for the gun and he carries it after he was accosted in the past and keeps it for safety.
Thompson was arrested on five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
