Original story:

Bryan police report a suspected drunk driver and a passenger were killed in a crash early Sunday morning south of the municipal golf course.

Investigators say the driver, 30 year old Mariano Velazquez of College Station, and the passenger, 26 year old Bryon Tumax of Bryan, were not wearing seat belts.

According to a news release, an officer was on South College south near Villa Maria Sunday at 2:11 a.m. when they “initiated a traffic stop on a suspected intoxication driver”.

The vehicle, headed south on College, then “fled officers turning west onto Fairway. The vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed when it approached a dead end causing the vehicle to go airborne across Wellborn Road and striking a retaining wall. The impact killed both the driver and passenger.”

The news release also stated “additional evidence on scene indicates possible intoxication; however, the bodies have been sent for autopsy and investigation continues.”
