The city of Bryan has two contracts with an Austin based media and public relations company. The city council at its December meeting had no public discussion before approving a $375,000 dollar contract to develop and launch a campaign titled “Keep Water Local”. This is associated with the council’s pursuit of stopping water from being exported out of Brazos and Robertson counties. The contract calls for the city to receive public service announcements and advertisements, a website, and provide social media consultation and media relations services. The multimedia campaign is supposed to include radio, television, newspapers, and direct mail. Funding sources are $200,000 dollars from the city’s water fund and $175,000 dollars from the city’s general fund. This agreement follows a $99,000 dollar contract the city manager approved last August with the same company. The contract amount, which is within the manager’s spending authority without seeking council approval, covered components of an economic development plan. Those components includes communications and marketing audits, message and research strategy services, recommendations and best practices, and ongoing communications support services.
