An eight-hour standoff with law enforcement ended with a Bryan man’s peaceful surrender Tuesday night.
Alan Lee Hejtmancik is charged with one count of aggravated assault on public servant for allegedly pulling a knife on a sheriff’s deputy.
The deputy is part of the county’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) that specializes in handling patients with mental problems. CIT responded after someone called concerning Hejtmancik.
The deputy called for backup about 2 p.m., Tuesday, resulting in a massive response from numerous agencies.
Hejtmancik fled the scene and barricaded himself in his home in the 2400 block of Briar Oaks, keeping officers at bay for until about 10:40 p.m. He then surrendered peacefully and was arrested.
Hejtmancik is no stranger to law enforcement. He was arrested in 1999 after pulling a knife on two Bryan police officers, one of whom shot Hejtmancik in self-defense.
