A second trip to prison awaits a Bryan man.

That’s after 23 year old Jorge Aguina Jr. admitted to kidnapping and assaulting an ex-girlfriend and evading Bryan police in August 2023.

A plea agreement with the district attorney’s office requires Aguina to serve at least half of a 20 year sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

He admitted to forcing his ex-girlfriend into his SUV. After the woman jumped out, he assaulted her before driving away. Then he led Bryan police on a chase reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour.

Online records show Aguina was previously sentenced to three years for burglary of a habitation that took place in 2018.

News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office:

Jorge Aguina was sentenced by Judge John Brick to the maximum of 20 years in prison for Assault on a Pregnant Woman and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle after pleading guilty to those charges. As part of his plea, Judge Brick made an affirmative finding of both a deadly weapon and family violence. The deadly weapon finding will require Aguina to serve half his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

On August 12, 2023, Bryan Police working in the Downtown Bryan area were alerted to a white SUV driving at a high rate of speed out of St. Andrews Episcopal Church’s parking lot. The vehicle had a passenger that appeared to be attempting to exit the passenger side. Witnesses told police that they had just witnessed what they believed was a kidnapping.

Shortly thereafter, a vehicle matching that description was called in by another witness, who stated that he was at the corner of Beck and Palasota and was observing a male driving the suspect vehicle while attempting to run over a female. The witness stated that as he was watching events unfold, the male fled the scene in the vehicle.

Officers responded to the scene and met with the victim who reported that the defendant, her ex-boyfriend, confronted her in Downtown Bryan about her refusal to talk with him. The defendant then forced her inside his vehicle and took off.

When the vehicle slowed down, the victim jumped to safety. The defendant then exited the vehicle and began assaulting the victim and attempting to drag her by the hair back inside the vehicle. Bryan Police observed that the victim had multiple visible injuries, including two chipped teeth. The victim also revealed to officers that she was pregnant.

Shortly after talking with the victim, Bryan Police located the defendant’s vehicle and attempted to stop it. The defendant disregarded officer efforts to stop the vehicle. During the evading, the defendant drove his vehicle over 100 mph through residential areas and disregarded traffic lights and signals. Ultimately, officers had to terminate the chase because of danger to pedestrians and other civilians. A warrant was later obtained for the defendant’s arrest.

Statement from assistant district attorney Jessica Escue: Many victims are hesitant to leave violent relationships because of fear of the violence escalating. Our office is determined to ensure the safety of all victims fleeing violent relationships and will aggressively prosecute those who would use violence to trap victims.”
