WTAW’s Chelsea Reber visits with Sandy Farris
Bryan ISD’s “Be The One Reading Literacy Campaign”
Bryan ISD launched their Be The One Reading Literacy Campaign last month. Sandy Farris said they have sent home reading tips and goals with kids to encourage their parents to read with them more.
Part of the campaign is a book donation drive going on right now. You can donate new or gently used children’s books to any campus location or the administration building. Farris said their goal is to distribute 8,300 books to children in grades pre-K – 5th on the Friday before Spring Break.
BISD is also producing posters featuring local celebrities and high-profile professions to remind people “you are never too old to enjoy a good book”.
BISD is also working with the Downtown Bryan association to have a reading component at the March First Friday, which happens to be March 2nd – Dr. Seuss’ birthday and National Read Across America Day.
