Bryan ISD Update Includes Changes at Friday’s Bryan High Homecoming

Topics covered by Sandy Farris includes a change in when the Bryan High School homecoming program takes place Friday night. Farris says instead of halftime, the homecoming court will be introduced one hour before kickoff at 6:30 p.m. The presentation of the top five and the crowning of the king and queen will take place shortly after 7. This is due to stricter enforcement of the 15 minute halftime limit by the new district Bryan High competes.

Farris also reminded Bryan High Viking Band alumni that they are invited to play with the current members during the homecoming game and at halftime.

Farris also updated the work of the district’s strategic planning committee, involving 10 teams and over 100 community members.

Farris also talked about 11 BISD high school students honored by the National Merit Scholarship company as commended students.  The list, from Bryan High School, are David Gilman, Jonathan Haven, Campbell Herman, Forest Herman, Rowan Martin, Rachel Miller, Jaime Thompson, Matthew Walker, Allison Barrentine, and Moriah Buckwalter; and from Bryan Collegiate High School, Daniel Adams.

Farris also announced two Rudder Varsity Volleyball players have received National recognition for their great play this season. Sophomore Lindsey Mitchell and Freshman Madison Smith have both been named to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Phenom List for 2012-2013. Both players will be invited to attend the NCAA Final Four in Louisville, Kentucky in December.

Farris also reported BISD Board of Trustees member Dr. Doug Wunneburger has been selected to represent the region at the Federal Relations Network Conference in Washington, DC in January, 2013.Wunneburger’s selection by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) allows him to remain in contact with members of Congress throughout the year to discuss the state association’s positions on key education issues.
