The first ever renovation of a more than 40 year old College Station apartment complex for low income elderly residents is completed. The city council at their last meeting, closed out the construction contract for the 49 unit Oak Hill apartments on Anderson. Joshua Brooks at the city’s community services office said the final cost came in $393,000 dollars under the contracted amount because prices for materials fell from highs during the pandemic, when the contract was approved, and because some optional features were not included. The reduced cost gives College Station another $280,000 dollars in community block grant money and another $113,000 in federal housing loan money. That put the final contract price at $3,000,695.50.
