College Station ISD Administrators Still Planning A Budget Without Additional State Money, No Teacher Layoffs, And Possibly More Students In Classrooms

April’s meeting of the College Station ISD school board continued a discussion of planning a budget for the next school year with no additional state money.

Superintendent Tim Harkrider said no teachers will be laid off. Classroom sizes may increase by not filling vacant positions.

Board members were told if the state continues its funding freeze that began in 2019, CSISD could absorb seven elementary and nine secondary positions.

Administrators also shared how CSISD compared with comparable districts in a variety of budget areas.

Members of the Texas house and senate have yet to work out differences in funding public schools. That’s as the lieutenant governor has called on the senate to agree to the house version of giving state money to private schools without going to a conference committee.

Board members also heard about other proposed state legislation that would impact public schools and where the state has underfunded CSISD in five areas.
