The Bryan school district makes enough money from school meals that the state requires spending some of the excess. That led the BISD school board at this week’s meeting to replace equipment.

The board approved assistant superintendent Kevin Beesaw’s recommendation to spend $146,000 dollars to replace equipment.

BISD’s new school nutrition director, Sandra Baxter, who was promoted following the retirement of Sundy Fryrear, explained the purpose of what are called pass-through units. Baxter said school cafeterias use pass-through units to keep prepared food at their proper temperature until it is served.

The purchases replace equipment at Jones elementary and at Bryan High.
