A relatively small part of the nearly $46 million dollar cost to build Bryan ISD’s third intermediate school is something required by code called “commissioning”.

BISD’s construction manager Paul Buckner tells WTAW News that there will be a report “that states the mechanical equipment, plumbing equipment, and controls are operating as designed and at the most efficient levels.”

Buckner also told WTAW News that buildings that are properly commissioned are typically more energy efficient and have lower operational and maintenance costs.

Buckner was asked about the $115,000 dollar expense during the August 16, 2021 BISD school board meeting.

He said “There is ways to lower that cost but it is to do less commissioning and kinda take the installer for their word that they put it in right. And personally, I’d rather know it’s working right so that when we do open this building up that we do have an efficient school as we possibly can.”
