Bryan ISD Demographic Study Projects New & Realigned Schools

Bryan school administrators and members of the Board of Trustees have 450 pages of new demographic information.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis says student population is projected to increase 1,100 students during the next ten years.

Dr. Wallis says the growth is supposed to be to the west, around Traditions Golf Course, and to the east in Austin’s Colony and Austin’s Estates.

Wallis says the study raises the possibility of building a 17th elementary school to address overcrowding at Mitchell, Bonham, and Navarro.

The superintendent says they will also use the information to study possible realignment of Bryan and Rudder High Schools to 4-A campuses for UIL activities.

Wallis says it will be 12 to 18 months before formal recommendations are presented to the board.

Tommy Wallis visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
