Bryan ISD buses are struck on two consecutive days while students are being taken to school.
The department of public safety reported Friday morning (August 29) around 6:45, a BISD bus that was stopped to pick up students in the Benchley community at OSR highway and Trace Bend when the bus was rear ended by a pickup. Six students on the bus and both drivers escaped injury. The driver of the pickup, who attempted to stop, was ticketed for failing to control speed.
Bryan police report Thursday morning (August 28) the driver of a tanker was ticketed for backing without safety into the rear of a BISD bus. A BPD spokesman says the tanker driver was trying to find a location and noticed the school bus approaching. The driver pulled over to allow the school bus to pass by. The tanker driver believing that the bus had made it clear, put his truck in reverse and backed into the bus. There was minor damage to the bus bumper and no injuries were reported on scene to six students on the bus and both drivers. This collision took place at 6:35 a.m. south of the Bryan city cemetery on Weaver Street.
On Wednesday morning (August 27), Bryan police staged targeted enforcement along 12 BISD school bus routes. Between 6:15 and 8 a.m., a BPD news release said “minimal enforcement action was needed as the overwhelming majority of motorists complied” with stopping for buses loading children.
