Bryan ISD Budget Deliberations Continue

Next Wednesday, June 23, the Bryan school board will hold another budget workshop. That’s when a property tax rate is expected to be set for next year.

The Board of Trustees has not decided how to make up a gap of $2.2 million dollars.

Trustees President Pat Shields says one of the ideas brought up at this week’s budget discussion was asking voters to approve a two-cent property tax increase. If approved, that would also give Bryan ISD enough additional state aid to make ends meet.

Among the ideas brought up at this week’s budget workshop was transferring money from the district’s self-funded health insurance program.

Shields says some administration office positions are not being filled.

Cuts made to next year’s budget includes $145,000 in administering curriculum and instruction programs and operating the district’s transportation service.

Shields says the trustees are also looking at stipends for extracurricular activities.

Shields says Trustees welcome comments about the budget.
