A Bryan High School student was arrested Monday afternoon for possession of an unloaded handgun, ammunition and several grams of marijuana.
Bryan ISD Superintendent Tommy Wallis said the student was in the office on an unrelated matter, but administrators suspected the student was in possession of stolen property.
The student refused to allow the search of his backpack, so his parent was contacted to come to the school. When she searched his backpack, she found a loaded magazine clip.
At that time, a student resource officer was called in to finish the search. The officer found an unloaded handgun and several grams of marijuana.
The student was taken into custody and the investigation continues.
Wallis said all parents were contacted through the school’s all-call system by Principal Lane Buban.
He also commended the Bryan High School administration for how they handled the situation.
