Statement from First Baptist Church-Bryan:
There was a very small incident that was immediately handled by our church safety team.
There was no damage to the church, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
We continue to cooperate with the fire marshal’s office during their investigation.
Original story:
Bryan firefighters are looking into the cause of what the Bryan police department lists as an arson at First Baptist Church.
Deputy fire marshal William Bouse says the only fire damage was to a cardboard box in a storeroom.
Bouse says after off-duty police officers looked in the room Sunday afternoon, one fire engine and an investigator were sent.
Bouse says multiple lit matches were found at the scene.
Following the Martin Luther King holiday, investigators will resume interviews on Tuesday.
