As an expansion of the Bryan city cemetery nears completion, the Bryan city council this week gave final approval to updated regulations.
Deputy city manager Hugh Walker says the revised ordinance and beefed up enforcement were the result of complaints and concerns that started about 18 months ago.
That was followed by a five month review by the city’s cemetery advisory board that included public hearings and notification to those who have cemetery plots.
Revisions include making a written request for plantings and decorations and getting written approval before placing markers, monuments, and headstones.
