Bryan Council Updated on New Parking Garage

For the first time since the Bryan City Council voted to remove parking meters in November 1962, paid public parking has returned to the downtown area.

The 900 space parking garage owned by the Brazos Transit District (BTD) opened last month and received its first heavy usage during the Texas Reds Festival.

BTD executive director John McBeth updated the city council at its last regular meeting about its rate structure.

Comments from John McBeth and city councilman Mike Southerland.

McBeth says the top floor of the garage has free parking for county employees, which was part of a trade for spaces the county gave up for the building.

McBeth says security includes armed officers and 40 cameras.

There is free parking when motorists leave within 60 minutes after arrival.  Otherwise, the charge is $1.00 per hour with a daily maximum of $10.00.
