Bryan Council to Consider Budget, Job Cuts

The Bryan City Council has scheduled a public hearing for the proposed fiscal year 2010 budget.

The public hearing is part of the regular Bryan City Council meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Municipal building.

The proposed budget does not involve a tax increase, but revenue will grow by about $500,000 because of new construction and increasing property values.

Walker says a slowing economy meant that departments were asked to trim anywhere possible, and a total of nine jobs were eliminated.

Six or seven of those positions are currently staffed.

Council can take a first vote on the issue Tuesday night, with a second reading of the proposal scheduled for September 8.
