Press release from the City of Bryan:

The Bryan City Council on Saturday wrapped up a two-day retreat in which staff members highlighted their accomplishments over the past year, and council members recommitted to six strategic initiatives.

The retreat was held at the Bryan Justice Center and included input from City Manager David Watkins, two deputy city managers and several department directors.

Council members discussed six areas of emphasis identified in 2007: Image, infrastructure, growth, diversity, education and public safety. They agreed that great strides have been made in each area over the past few years, but said they wanted to continue focusing on those areas in the future.

The retreat was facilitated by former Friendswood City Manager Ron Cox. He will submit an updated strategic plan to council at a later date, based on the information gathered at the retreat.

The Bryan City Council has scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday to discuss the budget.

Conlee says Bryan held pretty steady on property tax revenue that normally increases four to five percent per year.

Conlee says it is important to hold a special meeting to discuss the budget because if Bryan is spending more money than they are taking in the appropriate adjustments need to be made immediately.

The special meeting will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Bryan Municipal Building on Texas Avenue.
