Bryan Council Receives Update On OFO Rental Bicycles

The Bryan city council may consider regulating the yellow rental bicycles that are based at Texas A&M.

During a presentation the last council meeting, Ron Steedly at A&M transportation services reported OFO had more than 9,200 rides on the first day of classes.

Almost half of the rides were on campus. Another 11 percent went off campus to housing around Northgate and further north into Bryan.

The most popular stop for the yellow bicycles in Bryan is the H-E-B in the Tejas Center.

As of last week, Steedly said there were 2,300 yellow bicycles. In the next few weeks, that number will grow to 3,000.

While the bicycles are not causing any issues in Bryan, Mayor Andrew Nelson’s interest in an ordinance came after seeing the results of no regulations in Dallas. Nelson said in a three block by four block neighborhood, he counted about 200 in trees and another 60 in parks on the grounds.

Steedly invited those who wanted to report OFO issues to e-mail company representatives at ofobikes@tamu.edu.
