For the second time in four weeks, the Bryan City Council received an update on the long range capital improvements plan (CIP).
222 projects have been identified, with a total price tag of $328 million dollars.
Public Works Director Jayson Barfknecht identified almost $8 million dollars of major street work for next year coming from the city’s transportation fee. That includes rebuilding Sims from William Joel Bryan to Highway 21, Old Reliance from Rudder High School to the city limits, and an overlay of Austin’s Colony Parkway.
As previously reported, another $8 million in general fund money is proposed for next year to rebuild West 28th, Old Hearne Road, and Wilkes Street. A new fire truck and expanding the city cemetery are also planned for next year.
A couple of council members had questions in the most recent presentation. Paul Madison asked Barfknecht about extending Waco Street, which is on Bryan’s east side, so it goes from Villa Maria to Highway 21.
The council is scheduled to vote on the CIP on Tuesday, September 10.
