Bryan Council Ready to Offer Buying Briarcrest CC Subject to Advisory Election

The Bryan City Council voted Tuesday to submit an offer to buy Briarcrest Country Club, subject to the results of an advisory election.

The council vote was 6-0, with Paul Madison abstaining.

Councilman Mike Southerland says Briarcrest has to decide on the offer before the November 8th election.

Southerland and Councilwoman Ann Horton says if voters say no then the offer would be withdrawn.

Mayor Jason Bienski says the council was demonstrating how serious it is about purchasing Briarcrest, again subject to voter approval.  Bienski says there had been rumors Briarcrest was not for sale and the council wasn’t negotiating.

Following the vote, which was made following an executive session, council members heard from two Bryan residents wanting to keep the Travis Bryan Municipal Golf Course. They were opposed to the council having the authority to sell the land, which Bryan voters will also decide November 8th.

Bryan Mayor Jason Bienski & Councilman Mike Southerland begin comments out of executive session for the city to make an offer to purchase Briarcrest Country Club subject to voter approval.
