Bryan Council & Planning And Zoning Commission Discuss New Restrictions On Mobile Homes

A joint meeting of the Bryan city council and planning and zoning commission (P&Z) included a discussion about changing regulations on mobile and other manufactured homes.

P&Z member Leo Gonzalez, who leads a subcommittee on the subject, says most mobile homes in Bryan are used as rental properties.

Councilmen Reuben Marin and Prentiss Madison represent districts in the northern half of Bryan where most of the city’s nearly 2,600 hundred mobile homes are located.

Both say residents in their districts have mixed opinions about mobile homes and both want input from their constituents.

Mayor Andrew Nelson, who has lived in a mobile home park, says the top priority is the safety of those who live inside the mobile homes.

Ideas for further discussion includes banning manufactured homes built before 2008. Currently, qualifying manufactured homes built as far back as 1976 are allowed in Bryan.

Manufactured housing is not allowed in College Station, while it is allowed in Brazos County with approval of the health department.
