Bryan Council Gives Preliminary Approval to New Tattoo Business Regulations

The Bryan City Council gave first round approval Tuesday night to proposed changes in regulating tattoo businesses.

Final action will take place in two weeks following the 6-1 vote.

Richard Cortez represents the district where Arsenal Tattoo wants to move to 26th and Sims.

Paul Madison joined Cortez earlier this year calling on the Planning and Zoning Commission to reconsider its original opposition.

Art Hughes cast the lone no vote, saying he was against tattoo shops downtown.

Ann Horton, while philosophically opposed, says she supports the plans of Arsenal Tattoo owner Cliff Collard.

Comments from Ann Horton.

Because the proposed regulations call for spacing tattoo businesses a minimum one mile, there will only be one in the downtown area.

The council will take final action in two weeks on the P&Z recommendations.

Applicants, including Collard, will have to apply for a conditional use permit for any new tattoo shops.
