Bryan Council Extends Contract Collecting Delinquent Court Fines

Most people over six months overdue on paying fines and costs from Bryan Municipal Court has been contacted from a law firm.

A majority of the city council doesn’t want to wait that long to start outside collection efforts.

The council approved City Secretary Mary Lynne Stratta’s request to stay with the present firm for a fourth year while solicting requests from all interested parties.

Councilman Chuck Konderla at first wanted to take requests right away. Then he went with a six month extension before agreeing to let the present firm keep the city’s business another 12 months.

Mayor Jason Bienski agreed with accepting proposals from other companies and shortening the time period to start collecting delinquent accounts.

Stratta listed the collection firm’s accomplishments, including clearance of 79 percent of this year’s cases and the city receiving over $659,000 dollars in less than three years.
